MBean only to be deployed to DAS instance?

When I deploy a Custom MBean into SJSAS and attempt to set the deployment target to my cluster configuration, I get the following error:

-----
This operation failed, because it could not be handled by this domain. An example of such an
operation is creating application server instances or clusters when they are not supported by
the given domain. The actual error is: MBean instance not found: com.sun.appserv:type=application-ref,category=config,server=virtuoso-cluster,ref=virtuoso-mbean-1
-----

I would assume then, that MBeans can only be deployed to the DAS instance? Does this mean that I cannot shut down my DAS (ostensibly for maintenance) and have my applications still work as per normal (assuming that I actively use the MBeans)?

Trying to learn more about the inner workings of SJSAS/GF and learn it fast as well. There are not many people knowledgeable about SJSAS in this part of the world (south-east asia).

Thanks,
Wong
