Do java support user-defined character??

Dear all,

i am new to internalization and localization, and i have a question that hope
you guys can help me.

i am now writing an application that need to handle user-defined character[UDC)] (charset = big5 (codepage = CP950 in window) ). (the data is input/stored as varchar in db by another powerbuilder app).

in the window client pc, a EUDC.TTE (have infomation big5 <> unicode mapping for the user-defined character) file is installed to enable powerbuilder to show
/ handle those user-defined characters.

the main problems is that i can't get a unicode string from the byte stream as java seems can't do the (big5 + UDC) <> unicode bidirectional mapping.

in java, is it possible to handle UDC?? if yes, what can i do in order to enable java to handle these user-defined character (read / write / display) ???

    thank you.
