When you say physical cluster, do you mean something like SunCluster?
The advantages of software GlassFish cluster are obvious:
- unified management from single console -- you can manage all the instances in the cluster
from a single console.
- you get availability support in terms of "session persistence", thus an instance can actually
"fail over" to another instance in the same cluster without losing the data in the conversational
state (e.g. HTTPSession).
