I don't know much about this area so these are just best guesses rather than answers:

It looks like you need to have a <realm> element in your login config. See the very end of this dated, but still useful article: http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/webserver/reference/techart/running_roller_weblogger.html#5

I would assume that the value of the realm element would match the name you gave the realm when you created it in step 2.
