there seems to be a bug in case the select expression navigates through multiple embedded instances as in s.company.contact.firstName. Thanks for catching and reporting this.

Could you please file a defect in the glassfish issue tracker using entity-persistence as the subcomponent: https://glassfish.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectIssues ?
