I understand, that you for the explanation (in fact I wonder how simple
the world would be without lawyers) :-)

As I understand it, we are to modify the existing single line.

If a file has the dates (for example) 2004-2009, then if you were
editing it today you would replace that date range with 2004-2010.
Strictly speaking (although I am not a lawyer), if the existing range is
2004-2008 then the new range would be

2004-2008,2010

because no changes were made in 2009.

When modifying an existing file, do I have to *add a new* copyright
line, or do I have to *replace* the year in the *existing* copyright
line?

        Happy New Year, everyone!

        Just a reminder...

If you change a file this year, *YOU* are responsible for
updating the
copyright line in the file to include the current year.

I recently wrote a program to check that the copyright and
license
header in Java source files is correct. I found *thousands* of
files that were wrong. Most of the errors were a simple failure
to
        update the copyright date.

Lloyd has fixed most all of these errors. Please, help us by

carefully

checking that you've updated the copyright date before checking
in any
        files.

And since it's clearly not obvious judging by the number of
mistakes
        I've
seen... New files *must* have a copyright/license header.

        Any questions? Ask me...
