Thank you for this response. I have trimmed most of the previous discussion, as
your suggested wording of the note addresses most of the questions that the
discussion raised.

What effect do those limitations have on options whose availabilty used to be
determined by the edition? Is the availability of these options determined by
how a domain is configured? Or are they available whenever the command is
available? (Apologies for labouring this point, but there's quite a bit of
legacy text in the man pages that needs to be either deleted or modified.)

With very minor changes to accommodate the needs of Sun editorial style, I'll
use this wording.

Our tools make this risk very small. I can define an SGML text entity for each
name and then refer to those entities in the man pages. If the name of a profile
were to change, changing the name in all the man pages would be a 1-line change
in 1 file.
