Topic: Integrating WebSocket/HTML 5, Improve Look/Feel
Attendees: Vijay, Reza
Summary:
Vijay walked through his look/feel/navigation changes for the admin
interface, they looked good. We agreed that he was going to polish the
changes up but still keep the pages static for now. He will check in
some time after the 5th.
We also discussed creating an interactive/live dashboard showing cargo
over a world map using HTML 5 canvas and WebSocket. The dashboard would
be updated as handling events change cargo status or new cargo is
booked/routed. As a stretch goal, we will also try to chart current
voyages in the system. The dashboard could have drill down/command
capabilities for each cargo item perhaps showing it's itinerary details
and current tracking information. For now, the client will be developed
using plain JavaScript with the possibility of applying a JavaScript MVC
framework later on. The dashboard will also have a fallback message
(e.g. "you need an HTML 5 capable browser to view the dashboard") in
case the application is running on IE/older browsers. The dashboard
could also be somewhat separate from the main interface (perhaps in it's
own navigation category). Conceptually, the dashboard could look
something like this:
