Creating an Item Class


You are a product manager, and you need to create an item class named Laptop_BCE for a new line of laptop computers and accessories.

 

In this demonstration, you will learn how to create an item class.


Steps:

  1. Click the Navigator menu.

  2. Navigate to the Setup and Maintenance work area.

     

    Click the Setup and Maintenance link.

  3. Click the All Tasks tab.

  4. In the Search: Tasks region of the Setup and Maintenance work area, search for the task named Manage Item Classes.

     

    Click in the Name field.

  5. Enter the desired information into the Name field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "manage item classes"
    .

  6. Click the Search button.

  7. Highlight the Manage Item Classes row.

  8. Click the Go to Task button.

  9. Create your new item class on the Manage Item Classes page.

     

    Click the Create button.

  10. Enter the desired information into the Item Class field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Laptop_BCE"
    .

  11. The Internal Name field populates Laptop_BCE automatically.

     

    Click in the Internal Name field.

  13. Enter the desired information into the Description field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Laptop and accessories item classes"

  14. Click the Save and Add Details button.

  15. Because you want to be able to create items with this item class, leave the Item Creation Allowed check box checked.

     

    Point to the Item Creation Allowed object.

  16. Because you also want to be able to use this item class with new item requests, you must enable the item class for new item requests.

     

    Click the Item Management tab.

  17. In the New Item Request region, locate the Enable new item request check box.

     

    Click the Enable new item request option.

  19. To verify the settings of your new item class, search for the item class on the Manage Item Classes page.

     

    Click in the Item Class field.

  20. Enter the desired information into the Item Class field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Laptop_BCE"

  22. Highlight the row with Laptop_BCE in it.

     

    Click the OK button.

  23. Verify that the check boxes in columns Item Creation Allowed and New Item Request Enabled are checked.
