In this demonstration, you will learn how to create a new item.
Steps:
You are a product manager, and you want to create a new laptop computer item in the V1 Organization. You plan to assign your new item to the item class named ALLQA, and you want to name your item Laptop_2012_BB.
Click the Create Item link.
Step 1In the Create Item window, select Organization V1 from the list of values.
Click the Organization list item.
Step 2Because you are creating one new item, ensure that Create New is selected, and that the number one appears in the Number of Items field.
Click the Create New option.
Step 3Select ALLQA from the Item Class list of values.
Click an entry in the list.
Step 4A list of item class descriptions appears. This is an extensible list.
Click the ALLQA object.
Step 5The Templates region lists the available templates and the selected templates. Templates enable you to apply attribute (primary, operational and user-defined) values automatically.
In this example, the Finished Goods template is selected by default. You decide to retain that selection.
Click the OK button.
Step 6In the header region of the Create Item page, enter your item name in the Item field.
Enter "Laptop_2012_BB".
Step 7In the Description field, enter a brief description.
Enter "Generation 2013 Laptop".
Step 8Pack Types, also known as trade item unit descriptors are used to describe the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) hierarchy level, and can optionally be assigned when creating a new item.
Assign a pack type. This is the lowest level of the item hierarchy intended or labeled for individual resale.
Click the Base Unit or Each list item.
Step 9In the Mandatory Attributes region, ensure that Each is selected from the list of values as the Primary Unit of Measure.
Click an entry in the list.
Step 10Select the Specifications tab to update attributes that are associated at the item, item revision and organization levels.
Click the Specifications tab.
Step 11Item structure types are seeded values that enable you to define the composition of an item. To enable the system to perform built-in validations, select Standard from the Structure Item Type list of values.
Click the Standard list item.
Step 12Next, you want to enter the physical dimensions and weight of the new laptop computer item.
Click the Physical Attributes link.
Step 13In the Dimensions Unit field, select Inch from the list of values.
Click the Inch list item.
Step 14The laptop is 10 inches wide, 15 inches long, and 2 inches high. Enter the physical dimensions accordingly.
Enter "10" into the Width field.
Step 15Enter "15" into the Length field.
Step 16Enter "2" into the Height field.
Step 17In the Weight region, select Kilogram from the Unit list of values.
Click the Kilogram list item.
Step 18In the Unit Weight field, enter the weight of the laptop: 4.2.
Enter "4.2".
Step 19In the Associations tab, you can manage associations such as item organization assignment and supplier site organization assignment.
Click the Associations tab.
Step 20In the Organizations region, select the Select and Add icon.
Click the Select and Add button.
Step 21You can associate your item with more than one organization.
Click in the Organization field.
Step 22You decide to associate your new item with the organizations named M1 and M2.
Enter "M1".
Step 23Search for the organization named M1.
Click the Search link.
Step 24Select the M1 Organization: Seattle Manufacturing.
Click the Apply button.
Step 25Search for the organization named M2.
Click the Search link.
Step 26Select the M2 Organization: Boston Manufacturing.
Click the Done button.
Step 27There may be cases in which a business requirement makes it necessary to inactivate an item for a particular organization.
Click an entry in the V1 row.
Step 28A list of item status descriptions appears. This is an extensible list. You set the item status of Organization V1 to Inactive.
Click the Inactive list item.
Step 29Click the Save and Close button.
