Getting Started with Importing Sales Accounts Using a Template

Steps:

  1. Hello, my name is John and today I will talk about importing sales account information from a file.

    Step 1
  2. In this demo, I will talk about a template you can use to get started with importing sales account information.

    Step 2
  3. The sample template is a CSV file that contains some very basic information about two  fictional customers.

    Step 3
  4. This is the first in a series of demos that show how to use the template to import sales accounts from a file.

    Step 4
  5. Let's look at the page where you will map the data in the file you are importing to the attributes in the application.

We are looking at this page  because it will help you understand how the sample template is structured and how it will help you with import.

    Step 5
  6. The left side of the mapping page shows the structure of the import file.

    Step 6
  7. The Column Header shows the names in the file header.

    Step 7
  8. The Example Value column displays sample values from the file.

    Step 8
  9. The right side of the page shows the application attributes you will be mapping to.

Notice that there are two columns.

    Step 9
  10. To map an attribute, you select an object from the Object column first.

    Step 10
  11. And then the attribute itself.

Why do you have to select an object first?

    Step 11
  12. Because the objects organize customer information on the mapping page the way sections organize the user interface.

The object names are a bit different from the section names and there is no one to one correspondence, but let's look at a couple so you get the idea.

    Step 12
  13. For example, to map fields in the Customer Details section you will select the OrganizationProfile object

    Step 13
  14. To map an address, you will select the SellToAddress object.

    Step 14
  15. To map contact points, you will select PrimaryPhone, Url, or Fax. All of these are contact points but they have different import objects.

    Step 15
  16. Back on the mapping page, notice the column header names.

The sample template we are using here makes the mapping easy because the header for each column lists both the object and the attribute name you are mapping.

    Step 16
  17. To create the mapping when you are using the template, you simply select the object.

    Step 17
  18. And then the attribute.

    Step 18
  19. For more details about importing your data, consult the import guide which is available on support.oracle.com.

    Step 19
  20. In this demo, you learned about the sample template that will help you started with importing sales accounts.
