Importing Sales Accounts from the Sales Accounts Import Template

Steps:

  1. Hello, my name is John and today I will talk about importing sales account information from a file.

    Step 1
  2. In this demo, I will show you how to create a File Import Activity and import your sales account data.

    Step 2
  3. This is the fifth in a series of demos that show how to import sales account data from a file.

In this series we are importing a sample template you can download from support.oracle.com.

    Step 3
  4. Start by navigating to the Setup and Maintenance work area.

    Step 4
  5. Search for the Manage File Import Activities task.

    Step 5
  6. Click the Search button.

    Step 6
  7. Click the Go to Task button.

    Step 7
  8. Now that we are on the Manage Import Activities page, let's create an import activity.

    Step 8
  9. Click the Create button.

    Step 9
  10. Creating an import activity involves several steps. In the first step, you select the object you are importing, upload your file, and set some options.

    Step 10
  11. Let's enter a name for the import.

    Step 11
  12. Now we select the object we are importing. For sales accounts, we select Customer.

What objects are available for import depends on application security, specifically, the enterprise roles assigned to you.

    Step 12
  13. Click the Customer list item.

    Step 13
  14. We are uploading the file from our computer, so we select the Desktop option.

In the Sales Cloud Service, this is the only option available.

    Step 14
  15. Click the Browse… button.

    Step 15
  16. Select the file ImportTemplate-Customer-SalesAccounts.csv.

    Step 16
  17. Click the Open button.

    Step 17
  18. The file includes a header, so we select the Header row included option.

    Step 18
  19. Now let's go to the next step, where we map the columns in the file to the application attributes.

    Click the Next button.

    Step 19
  20. You can select an existing mapping if you imported a similar file in the past, or if an administrator created a mapping for you.

    Step 20

  21. Here we are creating a new mapping.

    Step 21

  22. The column header in the sample template includes all the information we need to create the mapping.

So let's expand the column so we can see the names.

    Step 22
  23. Step 23

  24. The first part of the column header name is the target object you will select to create the mapping.

    Step 24

  25. The second part is the target attribute.

    Step 25

  26. Now let's map the first attribute.

We select OrganizationProfile as the target object.

    Step 26
  27. Click the OrganizationProfile list item.

    Step 27
  28. Now let's select the target attribute, OrganizationName.

Click the dropdown button to activate the menu.

    Step 28
  29. Click the button of the scrollbar.

    Step 29
  30. Click the OrganizationName list item.

    Step 30
  31. Now we enter the rest of the mapping. No need to show you this step by step.

    Step 31
  32. When you are done, you click the Next button.

    Step 32
  33. By default, the import is scheduled to run immediately. That's what we want, so let's go to the next page.

    Step 33
  34. Click the Next button.

    Step 34
  35. We start the import by clicking the Activate button.

    Step 35
  36. The application returns you to the Manage Import Activities page where you can monitor the progress of your import.

    Step 36
  37. Click your browser's refresh button to see the current status.

    Step 37
  38. A status of Completed indicates your import completed successfully.

    Step 38
  39. You can view the details by clicking the status link.

    Step 39
  40. Note that the application created 12 separate records for the two customers.

    Step 40
  41. If your import completed with errors, you can download the error log using the Attachments link.

    Step 41
  42. In this demo, you learned how to create a file import activity and import data from a file.
