Creating a Long Text Field for an Object in Application Composer

Steps:

  1. Hello, my name is John, and today we are discussing extending  applications using Application Composer.

    Step 1
  2. In this demo, I will show you how to create a long text field for an object in Application Composer.

    Step 2
  3. This is the third in a series of related demos that show how to create a custom object, add fields to it, and create the user interface.

In this series, we create a  simple trouble ticket application the sales organization can use to log customer issues. Further demos will build on this example.

    Step 3
  4. You begin by clicking the Fields link for the object where you want to add the field.

    Step 4
  5. Now let's create the field.

    Click the Create button.

    Step 5
  6. In this example we are adding a field that salespersons will use to describe the issue in a trouble ticket, so let's select the Long Text option.

    Step 6
  7. Click the OK button.

    Step 7
  8. In the Display Label field, we enter the field name users will see.

Enter the desired information into the Display Label field. Enter

     "Description"
    .

    Step 8
  9. Now let's specify how wide we want to description field to be.

Click in the Display Width field.

    Step 9
  10. Notice that when we clicked in the field, the application automatically copied your entry into the Name field.  I just wanted to point out that this is internal  name, which is not visible to users, and must be unique.

    Step 10

  11. Now let's enter the width of  our field.

Enter the desired information into the Display Width field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "50"
    .

    Step 11
  12. We don't need to make this field required or worry about default values. We can save and we are done.

Click the Save and Close button.

    Step 12
  13. Our field is listed on the Fields page.

    Step 13

  14. In this demo you learned how to create a long text field for an object in Application Composer.

You can find additional learning resources in your Oracle Fusion Help application, as well as in the Oracle Learning Library, and at Oracle University. Thank you.
