Testing the Custom Field


In this demonstration, we test the custom text field we added to the create and edit opportunity pages.

This is the third in a series of demonstrations that show how to create a custom field for importing customer information.

 

These demonstrations cover:

- Creating a custom field

- Exposing the custom field in application pages

- Testing the custom field

- Publishing the custom field from the sandbox

- Making the custom field available for import

- Viewing the custom field in the import activity mapping

 

 


Steps:

  1. We'll navigate to the Opportunity work area to test our field.

    Step 1
  2. Click the Navigator link.

  3. Click the Opportunities link.

  4. Now let's create an opportunity.

  5. Click the Create button.

  6. The Next Step field is where we expected.

    Step 6

  7. Let's enter an opportunity name.

  8. Enter the desired information into the Opportunity Name field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Big opportunity"
    .

  9. And add some text in the Next Step field.

  10. Enter the desired information into the Next Step field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "follow-up with customer"
    .

  11. We'll save and test the edit page.

  12. Click the Save button.

  13. Let's edit the opportunity we just created.

  14. Click the Big opportunity link.

  15. Our field should appear in the collapsed section, so let's expand it.

  16. Click the Expand Show More button.

  18. Everything is working OK, so let's publish the sandbox so that the field is available for use in the application. This is the subject of the next demonstration.
