Creating Territory Zone Hierarchies


You are an Applications Administrator and need to create territory geography zone types and zones. On this occasion you decide to create a zone type and an Eastern Coast sales zone. You also need to add two states to the new zone.

 

You start at the Manage Territory Geographies page.


Steps:

  1. You first need to to create a new territory zone hierarchy.

     

    Click the Add button.

  2. You choose to create a zone at the top of the zone hierarchy, and do not need to select any existing zone.

     

    Click the Add Zone list item.

  3. Create a new territory geography zone type.

     

    Click the Create New Zone Type option.

    Enter a name for the new zone type.

     

    Enter the desired information into the Zone Type field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Sales_Zones"

  5. Enter a name for the new zone.

     

    Enter the desired information into the Name field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "Eastern Coast Sales"
    .

  6. Create a unique code name for the new zone.

     

    Enter the desired information into the Code field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "EASTERN_COAST_SALES"

  7. You choose to make the zone effective from January 1, 2011, so that the zone will immediately appear in the application.

     

    Enter the desired information into the Start Date field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "1/1/11"

  8. Click the Submit button.

  9. You now need to add geographies to the Eastern Coast Sales zone.

     

    Click the Eastern Coast Sales object.

  11. Click the Add Geography list item.

  12. You want to add the state of Massachusetts, United States, to the Eastern Coast Sales zone.

     

    Enter the desired information into the Country field. Enter

     "United States"
    .

  14. You now need to search for the state of Massachusetts.

     

    Enter the desired information into the State field. Enter

     "MA"

  15. You could even scroll down the list of states and select MA.

     

    Click the Submit button.

  16. You now have the choice of adding just the state to the zone, or adding the state geography with selected child geographies. In this instance, you decide to add only the state to the Eastern Coast Sales zone.

     

    Click the OK button.

  17. Geographies are currently added to zones using a back-end batch process. You need to confirm the batch process before it can be submitted.

     

    Click the OK button.

  19. You've just added the state of Masachussets to the Eastern Coast Sales zone. You now need to add another state to the zone, but this time, you need to include selected children of the state geography as well.

     

    Search for the state of New York and add it to the Eastern Coast Sales zone. Follow the steps used to add the state of Massachussets earlier in this demo.

  20. Select the state of New York from the search results.

     

    Click the Submit button.

  25. Confirm the batch submission to add the state and selected child geographies to the zone.

     

    Click the OK button.

You have now added two state geographies to the Eastern Coast Sales zone: one where the entire state of Masachussets is included as a single geography, and another where every county and city in the state of New York is included as separate geographies.

 

This concludes this demonstration of creating territory geography zone types and zones.
