Importing Offline Database Definitions Using Drag and Drop

You can drag tables, views, synonyms and sequences from a database schema onto a database diagram, where they become accessible as offline database objects.

Another way of working with existing tables, views, synonyms and sequences as offline objects is to import them from a database schema to an offline schema. See Using Import with Filters.

To drag objects onto a database diagram:

  1. Create a new database diagram, or open an existing one. See Creating a New Diagram or Opening an Existing Diagram.
  2. Choose Viewthen choose Connection Navigator.
  3. Expand Database and select a database connection. For information about creating a database connection, see Configuring Database Connections.
  4. In the connection, expand the schema and expand the node you want: Tables, Sequences, Synonyms, or Views.
  5. Select the object you want to model, and drag it onto the database diagram. This opens the Create From Offline Database dialog for tables and views. Ensure that Offline Database Objects is selected, and click OK. The table or view definition is now displayed on the diagram.
When you import sequences and synonyms, you may see the Import from Offline Database dialog. This closes as soon as the object has been imported.

You can drag more than one object of the same type onto a database diagram, by holding down the Ctrl key as you select them.

Note: If you have already imported the objects to an offline schema, that is the offline database object definitions are already present in the Applications Navigator or System Navigator, the object is created with a unique name.
