Editing weblogic-ejb-jar.xml

The J2EE application deployment information is contained within XML configuration files. Each application type has its own configuration files. For an EJB JAR file deployed to BEA WebLogic, two deployment descriptors are generated and used to define the EJB deployment descriptors:

ejb-jar.xml
Represents the standard J2EE EJB JAR deployment descriptor defined by Sun Microsystems. For more information about the EJB 2.0 Deployment Descriptors, you can download the specifications from:
http://www.javasoft.com/products/ejb/docs.html

weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
When packaging your J2EE application for deployment to a BEA WebLogic application server, you can also customize the deployment descriptors to include additional platform-specific deployment settings.
For detailed descriptions on the WebLogic platform-specific deployment descriptor elements in the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file, please refer to the current documentation for WebLogic Server 6.1 or later. The "Programming WebLogic Enterprise JavaBeans WebLogic" documentation which contains this information is currently located at:
http://edocs.beasys.com/wls/docs61/ejb/reference.html

To customize the EJB descriptors for WebLogic deployment (weblogic-ejb-jar.xml):

  1. After you create your EJB with JDeveloper, both the ejb-jar.xml and orion-ejb-jar.xml files are automatically generated for you. They appear in the Navigator in the specified project.
  2. The weblogic-ejb-jar.xml is created when you deploy to an existing WebLogic connection. Or, you can create your own weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file as follows:
    1. Choose File | New to open the New Gallery dialog.
    2. In the Categories tree, expand Business Tier and select Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB).
    3. In the Items list, double-click EJB Deployment Descriptor for WebLogic (weblogic-ejb-jar.xml) . The newly created file opens in the Code Editor.
  3. You can edit any of the WebLogic platform-specific deployment descriptors in the Code Editor or by selecting ejbjarxml_node_icon weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and choosing Settings.
  4. If you want to edit any of the standard J2EE deployment descriptors, select ejbjarxml ejb.jar.xml and choose Settings.
  5. Modify any of the settings on this panel and click OK when you are finished.
  6. When your EJB JAR module is deployed to a WebLogic instance, both of these deployment descriptors are included in your weblogic_ejb_jar.ear file.
  7. Click Help on any deployment descriptor page for more information.

Important: Whenever you edit the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file, make sure to include the updated version of this file in the EJB JAR file you are deploying to your application server.
