About Testing Business Components Within JDeveloper

Because Oracle ADF Business Components provides only business services, not a user interface, it is not possible to run business components without a user interface.

JDeveloper includes the Oracle Business Component Browser, a user interface that you can use to test your business components. The browser is a thin Java client that allows you to test the functionality of your business components.

You can use the Business Component Browser in two ways:

You can run it against an application module definition. In this case, the Business Component Browser will display the entire data model of the application module
You can run it against a package. In this case, the Business Component Browser will create a new, empty application module instance to which you can dynamically add view object and view link instances.

You can use the Browser to explore the entire functionality of your business components, including the following:

View any data that your view object instances present
Observe the master-detail synchronization provided by your view link instances
Change any data presented, subject to entity object validation and authorization
Add or rows, subject to entity object authorization and business logic
Post any changes made in the entity cache
Commit and roll back transactions

You can test application modules running in any configuration, including both local/web tier mode and, using JDeveloper's embedded server, remote deployment mode. You can also test remotely deployed application modules running on external servers.
