ORDM Architecture Overview

Architecture at a Glance

Oracle Retail Data Model utilizes a complete Oracle technology stack.

Platform

  • Database EE 11g Release 1
    • Partitioning, data mining, and OLAP options
    • RAC and spatial are optional.

From a platform perspective, ORDM utilizes the 11g database with the OLAP, data mining, and partitioning options. Customers can save money by using Real Application Clusters (RAC) and commodity hardware. The spatial option is required only if the customer wants maps.

Development Tools

  • Designer (optional)
  • Analytic Workspace Manager
  • Warehouse Builder (optional)
  • Data Miner (optional)

Designer is needed for 3rd Normal Form modeling only if you want to make changes to the logical design. Designer logical design metadata come with the product, in the form of exported entity-relationship (E-R) diagrams. Customers need not maintain the initial logical design, instead applying all changes at the physical design level.

Predefined ORDM Data Model

The data model, actually a set of data models, will be examined closely later in this module.

Presentation Layer

The Presentation layer can consist of Oracle Dashboard containing Oracle Answers reports, or it can be another reporting tool of the customer's choice.
