The ORDM Platform

Single-Vendor Solution Package

Oracle Retail Data Model is a startup kit for implementing a retail business intelligence solution. It is a standards-based data model, designed and pre-tuned for Oracle data warehouses, including the HP Oracle Database Machine.
With pre-built data mining, On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and dimensional models, it provides you with industry-specific metrics and insights that you can act on immediately to improve your bottom line.

ORDM can be used in any application environment and is easily extendable..

  • Easy to use
  • Fast development
  • Cost savings

Oracle Retail Data Model consists of enterprise data warehouse logical and physical components:

  • Base model (in 3rd Normal Form, transaction detail storage)
  • Reference models (describing the people, places and things within the retail organization)
  • Derived models (variation of the base model; could have minor aggregations, which store state or status information, or a combination of objects from the base model and data mining objects)
  • Aggregate models (aggregations of base and derived data for analytical purposes, including relational materialized views and OLAP)
  • " Intra-ETL" consisting of PL/SQL packages to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from one ORDM layer to another
  • Sample reporting layer of pre-built reports

These components are explored in detail in the next lesson on ORDM architecture.

Taking Advantage of Oracle Database Data Warehouse Technology
Oracle Database 10g and 11g include both relational and multidimensional technologies in a single database platform. Because the data is not distributed across hundreds of spreadsheets or stored in a separate multidimensional database, it provides a single source of truth for the accelerator's integrated business intelligence solution, simplifying deployment, and reducing complexity and managements costs.

Single-Vendor Solution
The Oracle Data Warehouse for Retail offers a single-vendor solution package that is tightly integrated with the business intelligence platform. These BI solution offerings take advantage of Oracle's scalability and reliability, using Oracle's familiar optimization, parallelism, and performance engineering within the database.
