OCDM Architecture Overview
Architecture at a Glance
Oracle Communications Data Model utilizes a complete Oracle technology stack.

Platform
- Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 11g Release 2
- Partitioning, compression, data mining, and OLAP options
- RAC is optional.
From a platform perspective, OCDM utilizes the 11g database with the OLAP, data mining, compression, and partitioning options. Real Application Clusters (RAC) and commodity hardware are also supported.
In addition, OCDM is designed & pre-tuned for VLDB, including support for Exadata storage.
Development Tools
- Designer (optional). Designer is needed for 3rd Normal Form modeling only if you want to make changes to the logical design. Designer logical design metadata come with the product, in the form of exported entity-relationship (E-R) diagrams. Customers need not maintain the initial logical design, instead applying all changes at the physical design level.
- Analytic Workspace Manager. Analytic Workspace Manager (AWM 11g) is used to create, develop, and manage OLAP cubes. It has an easy-to-use graphical user interface and comes with Oracle Database 11g as part of the Oracle OLAP option. By using AWM, you can define a dimensional model, implement it, and manage it throughout its life cycle.
- Warehouse Builder. Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is used for managing the data warehouse. It is a best-of-breed design and ETL tool with advanced data quality and data integration capabilities. OWB can target star and snowflake schemas, as well as OLAP cubes. All intra-ETLs are managed in OWB.
- Data Miner (optional, but strongly recommended). Oracle Data Miner (ODM) enables you to easily build and deploy applications that deliver predictive analytics and new insights. ODM employes SQL and Java APIs that automatically mine Oracle data and deploy results in real-time. With the Data Mining option Oracle Data Miner, the GUI, is delivered free of charge.
Note: Compression and Oracle Warehouse Builder are currently part of the license of the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 11gR2. Hence, they are usable at no additional costs.
Predefined OCDM Data Model
The data model, actually a set of data models, will be examined closely later in this module.
Presentation Layer
The Presentation layer can consist of Oracle BI Dashboards containing Oracle BI Answers reports, or it can be another reporting tool of the customer's choice.
