Default Mode Settings

UPK 12.1 allows authors to set the modes topics will have enabled by default for both Player and LMS deployments. Additionally, authors are able to set the modes which will include sound.

Steps:

1. By default, topics will have most modes enabled. Let's take a look at customizing which modes are included for Player and LMS, and which modes will include sound.

2. Click the Tools menu.

3. Click the Options... button.

   Step 3

4. Click the Topic cell.

   Step 4

5. The Default Mode Settings appear in a grid, making it very easy to quickly identify the default settings for newly created topics.

    

   In this example, let's disable Know It? for Player, See It! for LMS, and sound in Try It! mode.

   Step 5

6. Click the Know It? for Player cell.

   Step 6

7. Click the See It! for LMS cell.

   Step 7

8. Click the Try It! Sound cell.

   Step 8

9. Click the OK button.

   Step 9

10. Notice that existing topics are not affected. Let's create a new topic to see the impact of this change.

11. Click Link New Topic.

    Step 11

12. Notice the new topic includes only the modes that we selected as defaults.

Setting default modes for Player and LMS makes it easy for an author to create an outline of content with the perfect combination of modes.
