I don't think there's any inconsistency between what he's saying and
what I was saying. As he notes, if I remove <repository>, it makes it
that much harder for other people to build the software.

I guess the solution that makes everyone happy would be to sync up the
dependencies to central. OTOH, I find this notion very non-internet-like
that every open-source project has to sync to a central location.

Thus we are between a rock and a hard place, and I'm sorry that you are
the one who has to suffer, but as I wrote, just removing it would only
make other set of people suffer.

I suppose in this case if someone is willing to do the work of pushing
relevant artifacts into central (and thereby eliminating the need of
<repository>), that would make everyone happy.
