You misunderstood my assumption. As currently the code IS in a SVN
repository, anybody is able to deal with it. Whether or not you are
using SVN directly or via GIT doesn't play a role. Anybody currently
using the code, is using the SVN repository. Maybe manually, maybe using
a frontend. But it IS SVN.

False. I use git for all SVN interaction. I haven't actually counted,
but I think this thread has shown that the Jersey users represented so
far prefer git, not SVN.
