Well I did some performance testing and GET is faster and POST faster for just
using Client versus ApacheHttpClient.
I am not sure if there are other performance enhancements I can try like a
different parser of some sort or special compression option or some attribute
for keeping alive a connection for reuse ect.
Does anyone else have any experience on performance tuning of Jersey either on
client or web service side?

I see, so you need commons http client 3.1
And this version depends on:
commons-codec 1.2
commons-logging 1.0.4
