ok, problem solved:
in my servlet I asked java for System.getProperties() and found the property
java.endorsed.dirs= /var/tomcat/endorsed. I expected it at
JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/endorsed but it was not.
Copying jaxb-api.jar and jaxb-impl.jar to /var/tomcat/endorsed solved all
errors.
