I think this issue has been discussed before, so you might want to
search the archives.
In a nutshell, when you define an element decl that refers to an abstract
type, that must mean that you are using type substitution or element
substitution. JAXB RI 1.0 doesn't support neither, so that's why it
refuses to compile.
