The circumstance seems to suggest that the classloader did find XJCTask.
Maybe it failed to find other class files referenced from XJCTask.

Try setting CLASSPATH to null before invoking XJC and see if it helps.
What version of Ant are you using? Did you install any additional jar
files into Ant's lib directory?
