Markus/all,
Thanks for reaching out. I am only an observer in this case, but also
mentioned JAX-RS in my JavaOne talk on JSON-P 1.1 last week.
JSON-P is facing a Renewal Ballot any time about a week from now. JSR 370
also will, no later than the end of November (23 Nov, 2015 was when the
last Renewal Ballot ended)
Other than the dead and dropped JSR 373 (Management API) this one really
seems least active. No EDR 1 was ever produced. OK 375 also had problems
with the Spec Lead until JavaOne (both a presentation and EG F2F showed,
Oracle is willing to reboot it for Java EE 8 and 9) but the EG especially
Arjan did their part. An RI that feels more than EDR ready was created and
the API also evolved.
Other than the POM (about 2 weeks ago) the last change in the JAX-RS API
was 5 months ago.
As MVC which probably had most dependencies was thrown out of the Java EE
release train, which other goals were so far archived by JSR 370?
? Adding support for SSE.
? Improving integration with CDI.
? Exploring support for non-blocking I/O in providers (filters,
interceptors, etc.).
? Evaluating ways in which declarative security can be supported either
directly in this JSR or by leveraging other EE-platform JSRs.
? Making JAXB conditional on runtimes where it is available.
? Providing integration with JSON-B.
? Building upon the hypermedia API added in version 2.0.
? Investigating the reactive programming paradigm as a way to improve the
JAX-RS asynchronous client API.
It's still about 2 months, but when a renewal ballot is due again or the
results of the ongoing Java EE surveys first, many people would be happy to
know where each JSR stands.
Thanks and Regards,
Werner
