[jax-rs-spec users] Re: [jsr339-experts] MVC 1.0 JSR

I know there's no process in the JCP for explicitly expressing reservations
against a JSR as opposed to expressing support, but I'd still like to
mention here unofficially that I have many doubts about this being a good
idea (probably no surprise to anyone having read some of my previous posts).

It's not that I think the action oriented pattern itself isn't useful, but
that a second web framework in Java EE that's not even that different from
the existing one (MVC pull vs MVC push) is both confusing and polarizing.
Instead of uniting the Java EE platform I fear this will only cause a
divide into strongly contrasting groups.

A minor cosmetic concern is about the name. "MVC 1.0" kind of hijacks the
MVC term, implying that JSF is not MVC and that action oriented (MVC push)
is somehow the one and only official way to do MVC (the JSR proposal does
address this, which is great, but the general public will mostly see just
the name "MVC" and the proposed package name javax.mvc).

Anyway, as the MVC 1.0 train seems to be unstoppable I can only hope that I
will be proven wrong and that this effort will indeed strengthen the
platform. Time will tell I guess ;)

Kind regards,
Arjan
