I tend to agree with your analysis, and as you pointed out, this can also be concluded by studying the example. However, the point of @Rel (or attribute in @Linkable) is CoC. I think in the majority of cases (convention) it will be applicable, and in those that it isn't (configuration) you'd be able to update it using the builder.
Would you agree with this rationale?
