hg (mercurial) is an approved SCM (it's used by OpenJDK, OpenSolaris,
and many other projects), but I noticed that some teams picked git
because it suited better to their community (e.g. jruby).
AFAIK sun has a support contract for mercurial, but I don't know all
the details.
