Is this a large application (large number of classes)?
There are certainly ways to get around the out of memory problems:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88235/how-to-deal-with-java-lang-outofmemoryerror-permgen-space-error
But it would be good if you could identify with some performance tool what is chewing up the memory.
