there were rumors, that it will be possible in GlassFish 4 to upgrade applications without loss of availability even for incompatible sessions, see

The new version is deployed alongside the old version of the same application, and the client connections are managed so that new requests are directed to the new version and requests
with an old session are directed to the old version until all old sessions have terminated.
Do you know, if this feature is included in GlassFish 4 or there is development going on so that it will be included in a future release?
