Thank you for the guided answer. I was able to get it to work.
I've try to change the auth-method from BASIC to DIGEST but then after I've
enter the username and password in the browser prompt the login fail with the
message that the password was not provided.
So as far as I understand in order for this to be secure I must use it inside
TLS channel otherwise it's almost the same as no password at all.
