The broker log is in
glassfish\domains\<domain>\imq\instances\<brokername>\log
As for the server log, if you didn''t see any messages about the resource adapter starting, then that's the cause.
Have you tried setting the JVM property org.glassfish.jms.EagerStartup=true? (search for jvm-options in domain.xml for examples of setting JVM properties).
I didn't understand your comment about "manual start".
