Please attach the entire server.log so that we can look at the problem. Usually it is issue when loading some modules much earlier on.
One thing that doesn't sound right to me is about the login screen that you said you are seeing.
Out of box 3.0.1 shouldn't even require a user to login. It bypass the login screen.
Can you tell us how you install the server ?
If you are not using the zip archive , can you give that a try ?
