The main problem is senseless GF stacktrace not telling anything related to real problem, however.
About deployment, watch Applications in your GF Admin console (
http://localhost:4848/). For each application, it's type is displayed, so for JPA application there should be "JPA" included. This was not before my error corrected, and then it appears.
