Ok, I've figured it out. Yes, asupgrade did actually do the trick, except that I needed to do some additional configurations.
1) Change the name of my computer name in domain.xml
2) Add JVM configurations, appears that it didn't port over properly on this one
3) delete the "lock" file in path/imq/var/instances/
