I should have read things more carefully. You were trying to use Sun's build 20. The error is caused in OpenJDK's build 18. Rather than remove OpenJDK, you can just switch to Sun using update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun. I have confirmed that switching to Sun's build 20 works.
