No, lookup should return the actual "restype" as configured in custom-resource.
Could you please explain how does your application do lookup of the resource ?
If possible can you post the configuration of custom-resource in domain.xml
and
deployment descriptors (resource-ref that is configured for the resource) ?
You can refer sample templates for custom-resources :
