Both 32 and 64 bit versions of the JDK? If yes, then the following version is fine - right?

java version "1.6.0_15"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-226)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-92, mixed mode)

Glad to hear that. Note that 1.6.0_15 will be the minimum supported
JDK version.
Upgrading across promoted builds is not risk-averse (I find it to work
surprisingly well in fact :)
Removing the Felix cache is one of the things you may indeed need to do.
