and, as soon your system becomes more sophisticated you will need the
external script anyway.. other good point to have a separated script
(not generated by JPA annotations) is the ability to optimize the
database performance and robustness with proprietary and special DB
features like views, triggers and other tricks.......

an excellent material that shows you how more power is your
persistence when properly customized in the database scripts.. I know
it is more fancy to assume that all relationships will be magically
materialized somewhere instead of the dirty hands tricks.. but as soon
you see the performance enhancements you will never get back :)
