After much experimenting we've managed to get ProgrammaticLogin to work. It works along the line described in this thread, so I'm not from what it started to work all of a sudden. Also getCallerPrincipal now returns the right value.
Once the entire migration is complete, we plan to post a blog of our experiences as we still think the area could be documented a bit better.
