I had the same error when trying get an entity from a remote server by RMI, however, that I have all the necessary libraries (AppServ-rt.jar, javaee.jar, Toplink-essentials-agent.jar, Toplink - essentials.jar, AppServ-ee.jar).
Does someone can help me?
