The installation appeared to finish just fine. Fresh install in a clean whole-root Solaris 10 8/07 zone. Installed via the JES installer.
I'm not entirely sure what I did, but it is installed now. I ran the JES uninstaller to remove the software. Then I pkgrm'd the AS 8.2 platform edition binaries from /usr. Re-ran the installer and the app server installed fine this time.
