1. Do you see the same problem if you deploy using asadmin deploy or the admin console instead of autodeploy?
2. Are there any messages in server.log from either the second autodeployment (the one that leads to the intermittent behavior) or the attempts to access the web service after the second autodeployment?
3. Have you tried to see what happens if you restart the server after the second autodeployment? Does that clear up the intermittent problems?
