I did try running the sample, and it worked fine for me.
BTW, did you try running it using the console or the IDE? I tried it on both console and the NetBeans IDE. It just worked fine. Do you see any exception(s), if so, an exception stack trace might be helpful to identify the problem?
The path in the resource class is "relative to" the URL pattern mentioned in web.xml.
