I half answered my own question. I found
http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0217-10/dgcmp.html#wp53894 So I changed the schema element to <schema/> and now I get a different message in the logs and my ejb fails to deploy. So I still have the same question, what am I doing wrong to get this to deploy?
