If you are running the test that is attached to this thread: https://glassfish.dev.java.net/servlets/ReadMsg?list=ejb&msgNo=590 it doesn't contain any components that can be executed in an application server. Without an application server (or any other container that provides JNDI services, you need to specify the connection properties via a JPA-provider specific name-value pairs.
